The moisture in our mouths most commonly known as saliva plays an important role in oral health. Saliva helps to moisten food so it is easier to break down, helps us to swallow and wash away food particles from our teeth and gums. So what happens when the saliva glands can’t produce enough moisture? Without saliva, our mouths are prone to ‘dry mouth’ aka Xerostomia. Some of the conditions that Xerostomia can cause are tooth decay, fungal infections and ulcers.
